Role of the Mayor and Related Charter Amendments

Position Statement:

CAMO is opposed to any Town Charter Amendments that will change the role of

the mayor, and reduce or remove responsibilities from the elected Chief Executive and Financial Officer of the Town. Responsibilities such as appointments, financial decisions, and hiring and terminating town staff belong with an elected official.

Any attempt to amend the Town Charter concerning the powers of the Mayor should be scrutinized carefully and be thoroughly communicated to the town's residents. The numerous zoning, ordinance, and town resource issues should be prioritized over revisiting the long-established role of the mayor.
